Hello all, I'm a student from way down in down-under-land, and I'm investigating the Gunpowder Plot as the personal area of study for my Extension History course.

The gist of it is that I conduct my own investigation, and then turn in a paper based on a question I decide on. Currently, the question I'm working with is:Critically assess the success of the Gunpowder Plot as a response to repression of Catholicism in England.

So far, in addition to a few background pieces, I've read Ronald Hutton's web article, What if the Gunpowder Plot had succeeded? and Gunpowder Plots: a Celebration of 400 Years of British Carelessness with Explosives, a collection of essays by Brenda Buchanan and Antonia Fraser, among others.

The direction of my essay is not as much 'why didn't it work?' as it is 'what impact did it have?' and 'what impact could it have had?'. In putting it to the floor, could you please recommend any sources that provide insight onto this topic?

Regards, Luke
