We by these presents, both written and subscribed with our own hand, faithfully promises in the word of a prince that how soon it shall please God to possess us in the crown of England according to our just and undoubted title, we shall, within the space of a year thereafter, thankfully pay and content every one of these persons that have advanced us at this time with such sums as the Duke of Lennox has in ticket for the furtherance of our honourable adoes in foreign parts; like as we also faithfully promise to employ the said sums and every part of them for the furtherance of our attaining to the said crown allainerlie [only] and, for the further surety hereof, will retain them in Our own keepIng privlly in a little coffer whereof the said duke shall keep the key, and will also favourably gratify the persons advancers at all good occasions that shall be presented.
