The 400th Anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot

The 5th November 2005 marks the 400th anniversary of one of the most important, yet most poorly understood events in English history. Whether our lack of understanding is through poor education, or is a result of poor and sometimes incorrect recording of what actually happened. Whichever is the case there is still a great deal of work to do in order to correctl;y educate people. In the last few weeks I have spent time reviewing much of what has been written in order to rebuild this site. What I found are a great many instances where theory has all but become accepted fact. This is disturbing, and makes me wonder about how other areas of history have been recorded.

That aside, the following page outlines many of the more significant events that will form part of this years celebrations. The GPS has been involved in providing support for many of these events either through coordination of sponsors or those involved, or through the supply of information and material. I hope that in attending these you also take the time to read, and then ask questions about what you have read.
