Since the Gunpowder Plot Society was created, we have had a great many people write to us regarding their possible descent from one of the plotters. Many are keen to put to bed once and for all family legends that have been passed from one generation to the next. One of our own members has spent many sleepless nights himself trying to verify his own family legend.

What we have discovered is we're afraid far less appealing than these wonderful stories. It appears almost certain that there are no present day descendants of the plotters. Of course there are rumours that still persist regarding long lost family members, clandestine marriages, children never baptised in the Protestant faith, but none of these stories presently hangs off anything more than speculation and conjecture.

Many of the people associated with the Gunpowder Plot Society are themselves actively seeking answers to such speculation. We would suggest that if you are yourself seeking answers to your own family line or can add yet another legend to those already in circulation, you contact the following people who would be only too willing to assist you further :
