The Institute of Historical Research - Founded in 1921 by A. F. Pollard, the IHR is the centre for Metropolitan History and Institute of Contemporary British History.

The British Library - The British Library is the national library of the United Kingdom and one of the world's greatest libraries.

The National Archives - In April 2003, the Public Record Office merged with the Historical Manuscripts Commission to form the National Archives. It is the UK's central advisory body on archives and manuscripts relating to British history.

The Library of Congress - The Library of Congress is the largest library in the world, with more than 120 million items on approximately 530 miles of bookshelves. The collections include more than 18 million books, 2.5 million recordings, 12 million photographs, 4.5 million maps, and 54 million manuscripts.

Folger Shakespeare Library - Established by Henry Clay Folger around the time of the Great Depression, the Folger Library is today considered the leading Shakesperean Library in the world.

Catholic Central Library - The Catholic Central Library has 65,000 books and periodicals including theology, spirituality and related subjects, biography, history (including Catholic Family History), and many works not available elsewhere. It also includes journals, tracts and parish records from as far back as 1694.

Lambeth Palace Library - Historic Library of the Archbishops of Canterbury and home of the Church of England Record Centre. With a focus on ecclesiastical history the library was opened by Archbishop Bancroft in 1610. Public access is allowed.

The Guildhall Library - The original library at Guildhall was founded in the 1420s under the terms of the will of Richard Whittington. Today, it is a major public reference library which specialises in the history of London, especially the city.

Society of Antiquaries of London - Founded circa 1586 the College of Antiquity acquired the ire of James I, and in 1614 was effectively forced underground. Founded by royal charter in the 18th century, the library now contains detailed records of heraldry and archaeology.

The Bodleian Library - The Bodleian Library is the main research library of the University of Oxford.

Royal College of Arms - The Royal College of Arms is the official repository of the coats of arms and pedigrees of English, Welsh, Northern Irish and Commonwealth families and their descendants.

University of Washington Library - The University of Washington Library offers a wonderful document sourcing and supply facility called UWorld Express. Search a comprehensive library, including journals and books, and have articles delivered electronically to your email.

TannerRitchie Publishing - A source of digital (searchable) Medieval and Early Modern historical sources including Calendar State Papers and Patent Rolls. Annual subscriptions for individuals and institutions available as are independant purchasable copies.

The 1605 Living History Society - A reenactment society and Living History group whose aim is the presentation of culture, dance, music, weapons and armor, and life in 1605.

Society of Genealogists - The Society of Genealogists offers a unique combination of research material, guidance and support for those interested in family history and the lives of earlier generations. It is a charity whose objects are to "promote, encourage and foster the study, science and knowledge of genealogy".

The Guild of One Name Studies - The Guild of One Name Studies promotes research into the history of surnames and occurances of a name rather than a specific genealogy or line of descent.

GENUKI - The aim of GENUKI is to serve as a "virtual reference library" of genealogical information that is of particular relevance to the UK & Ireland. It is a noncommercial service, provided by an ever-growing group of volunteers in cooperation with the Federation of Family History Societies and a number of its member societies.
