This page contains a chronological list of the major changes made to the Gunpowder Plot Society web site since the site was first launched. It will be updated each time the web site pages are updated, so that you can use it as a reference to find out what's been recently added or changed on the site.
8 June 1999
A few new links have been added to the Links page.
A new Latest News page has also been added. This page will contain information on recent items of interest involving the Gunpowder Plot Society and Plot research in general. It can be accessed by clicking on the "What's New" button on the GPS home page.
2 November 1998
Major revision and reorganisation of the entire Gunpowder Plot Society web site.
The whole web site has been moved to its own server, and it even has its own domain: www.gunpowder-plot.org.
In addition to this, GPS contact e-mail addresses have changed as follows:
The web site now incorporates frames. This was done in order to improve the presentation of information on the site and to make navigation around the site easier and more intuitive. As a result, many of the pages have been moved about, and some pages have been deleted or combined, while others have been added.
A new Tudor and Stuart History timeline has been added. This timeline chronicles major dates in the reigns of Tudor and Stuart monarchs from Henry VIII to James VI/I. Of the projected four sections for this timeline, the first three (1509 to 1547, 1547 to 1558 and 1558 to 1603) have been completed.
A new Historical Sites page has been added. Here you can find links to other pages within the site which tell the stories of many of the stately homes which figured in the course of Gunpowder Plot events, as well as the families who lived in these homes.
A more sophisticated web site search facility has been added. Give it a try by clicking here.
And as usual, the genealogy database has been revised and expanded. It now contains over 2300 individuals.
The downloadable GEDCOM files on the DOWNLOAD page have also been updated.
5 July 1998

Some image files which were previously available for downloading as ZIPped archives have been restored to their original formats. This was basically done because JPG and GIF files don't reduce in size by much when they are compressed, so I felt it was easier to simply make them available in their native formats.
The following files have been changed in this way:
wint1.zip -> wint1.jpg (Letter from Thomas Wintour to John Grant, 4 December 1603)
wint2.zip -> wint2.jpg (Letter from Thomas Wintour to John Grant, January (?) 1605)
wint3.zip -> wint3.jpg (Letter written by Thomas Wintour in the Tower of London, 25 November 1605)
wintsig.zip -> wintsig.jpg (Specimens of Thomas Wintour's signatures while in the Tower of London)
The Family Tree Database has been updated. In addition to general updates and additions, it now contains more comprehensive information on the CATESBY and THROCKMORTON families. Improvements to the script used to generate this database also means that navigation has been made slightly easier.
27 April 1998
Added four new files to the Index of Downloadable Files.
wint1.zip (70,009 bytes) - Letter from Thomas Wintour to John Grant, 4 December 1603
wint2.zip (44,538 bytes) - Letter from Thomas Wintour to John Grant, January (?) 1605
wint3.zip (31,820 bytes) - Letter written by Thomas Wintour in the Tower of London, 25 November 1605

4 April 1998
Added a new WHAT'S NEW page. Added link to this page from the NEWS page.
Changed the reorganisation of the Gunpowder Plot Society web site. The site has now been split between two hosting servers: the main pages reside at Vision Internet Services, in Launceston, Tasmania, while the archive files and genealogy database remain at Global Online Japan. The URL for the GPS home page remains unchanged.
Updated family tree database
The new database is much more comprehensive in the families which it covers. It also includes a host of new features, including source citations, links from the database to individual biography pages, an improved overall appearance, and more.
GENEALOGY page revised.
This page is now functional. It includes direct links to the family tree database entries for the principal plotters, plus it has links which let you search the database by individual or surname.
